More than 60% of workers would be more inclined to be loyal to their employer if offered a four-day work week

Working remotely is a priority for most professionals, especially in the wake of the pandemic. But can you imagine what it would be like if you could combine remote work with a four-day work week, instead of the traditional Monday to Friday structure that’s all too familiar for white-collar jobs?
That’s the ultimate dream level of flexibility. A recent FlexJobs survey of 2,000+ U.S. professionals revealed that 61% of workers would be more loyal to their job at their employer if they offered a four-day work schedule, and about 68% would be less inclined to leave if remote work was offered.
And guess what, flexible employers that offer work-from-home jobs and embrace four-day work weeks do actually exist.
The concept of a four-day working week actually dates back to the mid-1900s, when President Nixon stated that he envisioned a state of society where Americans work a four-day work week in the very near future. This idea was largely forgotten up until after the pandemic, when all of a sudden, remote work job searches and availability spiked, and the world’s largest four-day work week trial was completed in 2022.
The study’s findings, reported by the University of Cambridge’s Department of Sociology, noted that of the participating companies (who did not reduce salaries either), “71% of employees self-reported lower levels of “burnout”, and 39% said they were less stressed, compared to the start of the trial.”
The department continued to note:
“Researchers found a 65% reduction in sick days, and a 57% fall in the number of staff leaving participating companies, compared to the same period the previous year. Company revenue barely changed during the trial period – even increasing marginally by 1.4% on average for the 23 organisations able to provide data.”
A job should do more than pay the bills and enable you to get by. A job should boost your career and overall wellbeing. It should work around your life…not the other way around. And it should be something you look forward to, not something that you dread due to a toxic, micromanaging, overworked environment.
If you’re actively or casually looking for a job that accomplishes all of these things, you’ll be happy to know that there are at least 50 companies that place employee as a high priority, and offer four-day workweeks and remote-friendly jobs.

How To Find Companies Hiring For 4-Days-A-Week Remote Jobs
To identify other flexible-friendly companies and target them in your job search strategy, here are some things you can do and places where you can look:
1. Flex-Focused Job Boards
Search via flexible job boards, such as FlexJobs, Remote.co, and indeed Flex. Look for innovative companies and start-ups embracing flexibility as these are often keen to attract and retain top talent, and are more prone to be innovative in their approach to managing talent.
2. Freelance
You can also find flexible jobs via freelance marketplaces, as this provides you with the ultimate freedom because you can set your own schedule, location, and time of work.
3. Glassdoor
Glassdoor has a section under their “companies” tab where you can filter companies by company rating categories. These categories include workplace factor ratings such as culture and values, diversity and inclusion, work-life balance, compensation and benefits, and others. If you select the work-life balance category, you can see more employers that align with your needs for flexibility.
